An account takes weeks to obtain and KYC procedures prevent people in low income groups from opening one.
Mobile Money by telco’s hasn’t had the same adoption seen in East Africa. This is because the ecosystem hasn’t been sufficiently developed, nor the products.

Food Lovers is one of the Top 4 Supermarkets in Zambia. They partnered with Zazu at Eastpark Mall, one of their most popular outlets with high foot traffic. In such a busy environment, with frequent low volume purchases, speed was imperative. Food Lovers opted for ZazuPay, which powers quick and secure payments: enabling shoppers to get served in a timely manner. At the end of the day, Zazu settles with Food Lovers in their preferred bank account - giving them data about the day’s transactions.
As an early adopter, Zazu worked with Food Lovers, to craft a unique proposition. Each payment routed through Zazu, saw the customer earn 2% cash-back instantly.
CFU are working with smallholder farmers across Zambia, readying and prepping them to adopt climate smart agriculture. These farmers are supported with a stipend, to power their experiments and eventual adoption of climate smart agriculture. These stipends can only be spent on specific items, in vetted shops up and down the breadth of Zambia.
CFU uses Zazu to ensure that farmers are given the stipend, and that the stipend is spent on approved shops. In the background, Zazu routes payments between all parties, and provides CFU an audit trail, to prove their impact to their funders.
